How to Tell a Set of Identical Twins Apart

Every human being is a unique individual, with their own personality, likes and dislikes, thoughts and feelings. Identical twins are no different. They may look the same but they are not the same person and it is not fair to treat them as such. Fortunately, identical twins are never identical in every way and there are ways of telling a set of twins apart.
[edit] Steps

1. Learn both of the twins' names, how to pronounce them, and how to spell them correctly.
2. Observe them and remember any habits they have that may differ - notice any difference in hairstyle, clothing choice, backpack/purse, glasses or no glasses?
3. Observe any physical qualities that may differ between them - this is key to telling them apart in the long run - height, glasses/contacts, freckles, voice tone etc.
4. Spend time getting to know them both, try to remember things they both like and dislike, many twins share common interests but often have at least a few things to argue about.

[edit] Tips

* The more time you spend with identical twins and get to know them, the more you will not even realize that they are twins, so don't let the fact that they are indeed 'identical' get in the way
* Remember that they are not the same person.
* Don't worry too much about getting the names mixed up - twins are usually used to that and making it a big deal can just be more irritating.
* Remember that twins like to know that you appreciate them for being their own person.
* Some twins can be quite the tricksters. They may find it funny to play tricks on you or others to make you confused. However, keep in mind that not all twins do this.

[edit] Warnings

* As a side note, don't make too many twin jokes - they may be clever for you but they are generally overused, boring, and unoriginal to the twins. At the very least, don't focus on their being twins all the time.
* NEVER refer to them as "the good twin" and "the evil twin". This is not appreciated and is not the least bit funny.
* Don't assume that two non-identical siblings are twins unless you are absolutely sure. Just because they are the same height or are dressed similarly does not make them twins, and they could be angry and embarrassed if you mistakenly call them twins. They might feel like you think they are the same person or that they look alike when they do not.
