Fashion show with a futuristc look

For fashion connoisseurs of Guwahati, the Mega Northeast Designers’ Contest was a show with a difference.

On a cold December night recently, models in mini skirts and bolero jackets, along with boots, gloves, headgear and masks, walked the ramp. The design had a futuristic look, representing the space age.

Ruth Lalchanhimi’s creations were highly applauded by the crowd, and though she did not win the top awards, she got a consolation prize.

The contest saw 14 designers vying for the coveted crown, over 10 sequences.

In addition, there was a four-round fashion show that showcased some of the latest collections of designers Prasantt, Mayuree and Pinky.

Three other contestants, Mitu Goyal, Arindita Kalita and Sweta Agarwal’s blood red jackets, black pants and other colourful minis left the audience spellbound.

In designer Nelson’s sequence, the subtly designed ethnic collections represented the theme Krishna. The dresses were festive, colourful and in perfect sync with the background music.

Designer Krishika Bansal presented six different apparels chosen for six different personalities in her theme Indian Mystique. Each of her collections was extraordinary.

Shreya Singh and Isha Agarwal’s collection titled Aqua World of evening gowns mesmerised the audience. Each of the designs epitomised the very nature of our planet.

Mitu with her co-designers Sweta and Arindita of the city-based Vogue institute won the designer’s crown. Joy won the first runners-up title, while Shreya and her co-designer Isha of J.D. Institute were the second runners-up.

Game again

It will be back to the playing field for a group of 22 former Ranji cricketers.

Chosen by the veteran cricket association, these former players will participate in an exhibition match at the Nehru Stadium on January 12, organised by the Bud Cricket Club.

Those who have missed the action of noted players like Bimal Bharali and Rajesh Borah will get a chance to see them, said Mukut Kalita of Bud who is co-ordinating the event.

“We are looking forward to it. Most of them are big names of Assam cricket. Moreover, they will get to play in coloured clothing for the first time.

We will be providing extra fielders in case some of them don’t last the day (as they may not be very fit at this age),” Kalita added.

Job overtaken

The personnel in the Rajiv Bhawan media and publicity department have been rendered jobless.

It is understood that a few influential ministers, along with a few chosen partymen, took over the job of conducting the publicity for the panchayat polls centrally for “effective monitoring”.

“Please meet so and so” is the all they can say when they are approached with queries related to the polls.
